HopeHouse has determined to partner with Nicaraguan Churches who are serving the needs of their community. Because the need is so great, We have committed our resources to help individual churches reach their God given mandate in their communities. The Need in Nicaragua - 75% of the population is under 29 years of age
- 35 - 50% of un-wed teenage girls will end up pregnant
- 80% of the population lives in poverty
- 60% of the population live on less than $1.00 per day
- 32% of the homes in Managua have no electricity
- Women head 34% of urban homes and 17% of rural homes
- From 1993 to 2001 the number of child workers grew by 400%
- 43% of these do not attend school and 60% are illiterate
- Nicaragua is the poorest Spanish-speaking country in the world. It is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The country's poverty most severely affects women and children.
- Nearly 50% of all Nicaraguans are either unemployed or underemployed.
- Distribution of income in Nicaragua is one of the most unequal on the globe. Over two million Nicaraguans live in poverty. The majority of Nicaraguans live on less than $2/day and more than 800,000 live in extreme poverty (less than $1/day).
- One of every three Nicaraguan children has some degree of malnutrition.
- Less than 30 percent of all Nicaraguan children complete an elementary education. On average, Nicaraguans complete fewer than five years of schooling.
- Ninety-five percent of all disabled children in the country receive no appropriate support
